CUSTOMIZATION PRICING: Prices for a commissioned pair of shoes from Customized by Malia range from $120 to $700+ USD. These prices strictly cover the cost of the artwork and do not include the cost of the base shoes (or whatever item is being customized) or some fees that may be necessary for your order. Prices may exceed the estimate given if the commissioned piece is taking more labor than initially expected to complete. If you want to understand more about why Customized by Malia’s work is priced this way, read under the "How do you decide your prices?" question. ADDITIONAL COSTS: Mock up Prior to receiving an individualized mock up, a non refundable $25 payment is required. This goes toward a design consultation, the digital mock up along with the corresponding price estimate, and a secured spot in Customized by Malia’s order list. This fee will go towards the final customization cost if you decide to fully go through with the order. Base shoe/item If customers choose to have Customized by Malia provide their desired shoe or base for customization, a $20 fee will be charged along with reimbursement for the cost of the customers desired item. Rushed orders To avoid an additional $50 fee for rushed orders, customer orders must be placed and finalized (shoes must be sent to Customized by Malia) at least 2 weeks prior to the date they wish to receive their pair. Order cancellation Once preparation and painting has begun on an order, cancellations will not be allowed or accepted. If an order is cancelled BEFORE any prep or painting has begun, the cancellation will be accepted. Any customization payment that was made upfront will be refunded (minus the cost of the mock-up fee). However, a $50 inconvenience fee will be deducted from your refund as others have been patiently waiting in line and items will have to be returned. SHIPPING: Shipping costs vary depending on many things for each order (the distance of the recipient, weight + size of what’s being shipped). The exact cost of your specific order will be messaged to you as soon as it is known, the payment of which will be required before your package can be sent home to you. (Continental US shipping typically ranges from $10-$20) Customized by Malia does ship internationally! However, be sure to understand and accept the high shipping cost and longer wait time that comes with ordering internationally. CUSTOMER INFO: Payments are accepted primarily through Venmo, CashApp, or bank transfer (like Zelle). Cash and check can be accepted for local orders. Customized by Malia is not responsible for duty taxes, fees, or lost packages. Customers are welcome and encouraged to share their budget before any major design work has begun. Customized by Malia is willing to work with customer budgets within reason. Customers have the option to either provide the shoes themselves (brand new or previously worn few times, in like-new condition), or have Customized by Malia provide the desired shoes. Either way, accurate shoe sizes are mandatory as returns (once painting process has begun) are unavailable.

1) Request a Commission - Fill out the commission request form linked on the “Customize Your Own Pair” page. From there, if your request is accepted, you will be contacted through either text, email, or social media. 2) Before a digital mock up is created and sent to the customer, a non-refundable $25 design consultation payment is required. Payment preferred through Venmo, CashApp, or bank transfer (like Zelle). Cash/check can be accepted for local orders. 3) Quote with mock up - All mock up designs created, along with the corresponding cost estimates, will be sent. Once a final design has been agreed upon, work will begin! At this time, shoes (or base item that is being customized) should be en route to Customized by Malia and a portion of the final customization cost is required to be paid. Since the customer is required to approve the mock up before any work moves forward, only minimal adjustments are allowed to be made once painting process has begun. 4) Creation - All commission work will be hand painted with quality preparers, paints, sealants, and a whole lot of love! Generally completed in 3-6 weeks; return time may fluctuate. The customer will be updated throughout the process. 5) Payment - Once the painting portion of the customization is completed, and prior to sealing/packaging, the final customization cost (or the remainder of it) is expected to be paid in full. Payment is preferred through Venmo (@pope-malia), CashApp ($popemalia), or bank transfer (like Zelle). Cash/check can be accepted for local orders. Shoes will not be sealed, packaged, or shipped without payment. 6) Delivery - Shoes are packaged with care and shipped home to you! The exact shipping cost will now be added on. This payment is required to be paid before sending the shoes out. The tracking number will be texted to you once made available. Reminder: once the shoes are in the hands of the postal service, unfortunately their safety and speed of getting to you is out of my control. Customized by Malia is not responsible for lost/damaged packages at this point. 7) Enjoy! Customized by Malia charges $20/hour for commission pieces. To give you a look into the process: - prep work takes around an hour - stencils/sketching the design onto the desired item takes 30 min to an hour depending on how much is needed and the complexity of each - mixing the colors takes around an hour (depending on how many are needed) - to seal and package the order takes around an hour Those steps are mandatory for each order and already bring the cost to $80 without including all of the time spent on physically painting the design. Additionally, in business, many things have to be taken into consideration when it comes to pricing. The main things Customized by Malia accounts for are: resources (preparers, special paints, brushes, mix-ins, sealing sprays, packaging materials, etc.) and time ($20/hour). Prices are also heavily based on the difficulty, level of detail, intricacy, and the amount of shoe/base coverage of the design asked for. Due to these things differing between projects, prices vary depending on commission. The more time consuming the design is, the higher the cost for that specific project will be. EXAMPLES OF WHAT CAN BE REPLICATED Typically, simple color block designs can be replicated as well as basic designs that were not personalized or made specifically for the customer commissioning the pair. Prices for this level of design tend to run lower. If you have a question about whether or not a design can be replicated, reach out and ask! (email: customized.bymalia@gmail.com ) EXAMPLES OF WHAT CANNOT BE REPLICATED The designs above are examples of 1-of-1 pieces and cannot be replicated as they were personalized and specifically made for the customers that commissioned each individual pair. If you are interested in one of the designs, something similar can be done with the same topic but an exact copy will not be available for purchase. Absolutely! Customized by Malia can paint old or new shoes, pricing will be similar. However, for the best, long lasting results, it is recommended that the shoes being painted are brand new. This gives the paint a better chance to adhere and have a longer lifespan. Keep in mind that whatever condition the shoes are given to Customized by Malia in is how they will be painted. Customized by Malia is allowed to reject customer requests. The pictures attached are previously worn shoes that Customized by Malia painted to look new and unique!

For any customized pair that you receive, always be sure to gently hand wash the shoes. I've found that a damp rag or paper towel with or without mild, gentle soap and warm water does a great job at removing unwanted dirt without affecting the paint. Different shoe materials may call for different aftercare treatment. DO NOT use acetone or harsh chemicals on your custom artwork. This will likely result in it being ruined. Rough and/or careless use of custom pieces may result in quicker wear and tear on the artwork.

From when Customized by Malia receives your pair of shoes, it'll be around 2-4+ weeks for local orders and 3-6+ weeks for other, non international orders. Timing mostly depends on how full orders are at the time and where the shoes are being shipped off to. Return time may vary. Your patience is appreciated!

Returns are not accepted. Since the customer is expected to give out the correct shoe size and shoe/base item preference, Customized by Malia does not take returns/exchanges. Every effort will be made to ensure customer satisfaction throughout the painting process. If an order is cancelled BEFORE any prep or painting has begun on the pair, the cancellation will be accepted. However, a $50 inconvenience fee will be deducted from your refund as others have been patiently waiting in line and items will have to be returned. If the prep and painting work has already started, cancellations with a refund are not accepted.
